Week Five: Remembering

Nothing is ever really lost to us as long as we remember it.”
~ L.M. Montgomery, The Story Girl

Memory is the diary we all carry about with us.”
~ Oscar Wilde

This week is the last of 2017…as such, there is much to look back and even more to look forward.

Ends and new beginnings help us to assess, be grateful and sort what we will be letting go and what we will keep, what we will be creating or encouraging more of and what we will reduce or even stop inviting or doing in our lives.

Choose a spot and time to start, you may want to make this a daily or weekly practice after the first time, a time and place for you to journal, draw or express your memories about re-connection:

  • Think about times when you felt really connected with everything: nature, other people, yourself…
  • Think about times when you experienced joy…
  • Remember times when your mind and heart were in peace and felt safe…
  • Recall times when you felt excited and full of energy to do things you believed in and wanted to happen…

Bring to your mind those times when you felt deeply grateful for something or someone…

Times when you were deeply committed to serve, to share, to protect or to do something for others,  for a place, an animal, a plant or an ecosystem…

Where were you? Who was with you? When was this? How were you feeling? What was happening? What were you doing? What skills were you using? what or who else were involved? what elements helped this to happen?

Through these questions, you’ll identify the things that help you to connect and you can start creating or inviting more of them in your life: the people, the places, the skills, the elements around.

Share these memories in a journal or artistic expression; share them with someone you trust. Ask them about their own memories of you.

Is your current life aligned with these things? If not, how can you bring more of them into it? What’s missing? What may to be reduced or let go?

Make this process sacred…and listen to what it has to say.
