On being truly involved

In past post and on my regular workshops and one-on-one meetings with clients, I emphasize the importance of being involved and being proactive.

This is not just a suggestion for those looking for a job, but for anybody who wants to be fully present in their own lives and the decisions that are made around them. Decisions that affect their environment, their future and the future of their children.

I was a bit disappointed not to see a single client or neighbour at yesterday’s Surrey Community Summit. It was a terrific opportunity to see what their city is doing about issues that affect all of us: from strengthening the local economy to engage communities and grassroots groups into solutions and opportunities to deal with the many challenges the city faces.

The Summit presented the research of the Sustainability Charter and their plan (which can be checked here), provided many ways for people to engage in projects such as community gardens, sustainable transportation, integration of newcomers, etc.
